Yes, it's true. Noah is 2 1/2 and he's never been on a trip before. Up until this last weekend, the furthest he had been from home was Layton, and we were only there for an hour or so. This was largely due to my fear of screaming children in the back of the car for hours on end. But overall, we did really really well on this trip.
We had originally planned to leave around 2 on Friday. Some things went south for Z at work that afternoon though, so we didn't get out of here until more like 5 or 6, which ultimately worked out well because the kids did lots of sleeping on the 5 hour drive up to Dan's house in Victor Idaho. We got to their place around 10, hung out for a bit, got the kids into their beds, then all crashed for the night.
Saturday we got some breakfast, hung out, played games, ate lots of junk food, went to lunch at Scratch (yummy food), ate some more junk food, hung out some more, and eventually took showers at like 4pm. Since Dan and Krystal were hosting, Zander and I figured we should do some cooking for them, so we had a Puerto Rican night. Tostones, rice, beans, pork chops, yumm. After we finally convinced all the kids to bed, we adults were total losers and sat around on the couch, barely awake, just talking until like 10:30, when we decided that we might as well go to bed since the majority of us were pretty much asleep anyway. All day long the kids were running, playing, shooting guns, and just having a grand time. Their house has an unfinished basement, so they spent a LOT of time down there, which worked out well for everyone involved.
Sunday morning we got some breakfast, cleaned up, hung out for a bit, then headed home after Dan plowed a way out for my car. It snowed 10 inches that night and was still going when we left. That on top of the 4ish feet they already had means that we saw a lot of white on our way out. It was really pretty though, and I'm excited to go back again some time this summer so we can see some more of the overall scenery.
I know, you're thinking "wow, what a boring trip." In all honesty it was a perfect trip for us, especially since the kids have never traveled, and K's never had to sleep somewhere away from home other than his car seat before. And when Dan and Krystal and their boys are involved, it doesn't have to be something elaborate. Just hanging out with them is a blast.
